It is officially 2020, the dawn of a new era and the beginning of a new chapter for so many of us. While many joyously look forward to the start of a new year for all that it represents in the sense of being able to start over, this year seems to carry a bit more weight than most. With the end of a decade now upon us we take the time and space to allow ourselves to deeply reflect on all of the ways in which we have grown up and matured into better, more enlightened versions of ourselves.
Looking back over these past ten years I am filled with so many emotions. There have been so many changes in my life that I often found myself with no time to digest and reflect on it all. Always needing to move on to the next thing or prepare for what was to come, I never fully had to chance to reflect on all I have accomplished and all that I have gained. Starting this new era in a new understanding of myself I have decided to no longer hold on to the excuse of having no time to reflect. Instead I am choosing to dig deep and uncover all of the terrifying yet amazing changes that have taken place to make me the woman that I am today.
Instead of giving negative attention and energy to things of the past, I am instead choosing to focus on the brightness and positivity of the future. Remembering that on my journey of self discovery I have found that we all fall short from time to time. Everyone fails and all of us make mistakes but it’s how we get back up and learn from those mistakes that matters most. Accepting this, I began to stop beating myself up for all of the wrong things I have done in the past 10 years. No longer choosing to dwell on past failures and hangups I instead try and remind myself to use that wasted energy on creating a better result for tomorrow. Completely understanding that apologies and holding on to old memories won’t change the past, I choose to move forward in learning from my mistakes.
So it is in that spirit that I say Happy New Year to all reading this! May 2020 bring us nothing but reminders that anything is possible, and fresh starts happen whenever we allow them to.
