Searching for self, a task we all must face at one time or another on this tediously exciting journey we call life. Longing to understand our individual callings as we decipher our life paths, we struggle to find that listening to ourselves is of the utmost importance to our growth and development. Often too afraid to firmly stand on the shaky grounds that hoist up the crazy ideas that we pride ourselves on, we instead decide to waver on the edge of uncertainty and self doubt, foolishly convincing ourselves that this space feels easier to swallow than our own acceptance of self.
Continuing to tell ourselves that we are too big, too small, too much, too loud, to bold, too blunt, we intentionally avoid the reality that we are, and always have been, just enough. Learning this, and holding it sacred in our hearts can we then understand that life will bring us the lessons we need to learn. It will shower us with the blessings that have already been marked with our names and our destinies on it, and it will never leave us high and dry. This, a lesson so many need to learn, slips through the cracks of our understanding as we choose to continue to wade in fear, for wading in fear is easier than stepping out into an unknown graveyard full of dreams waiting to be resurrected from underestimation.
I too find that I am often trying to “find myself” in the crazy world that I live in. Constantly surrounded by options and opportunities it is often difficult to understand what one truly wants without acting on the wants and desires of others. Challenged to be with ourselves and hear our own thoughts, we are constantly bombarded by noises from outside of ourselves, clouding our vision and distorting our judgement of self. Under such conditions, it is no wonder that we so often cast our precious dreams aside, leaving them to rot in the back of our memories, but no more. With this in mind, I declare to use this blog as a safe space. A place of belonging where I can freely and openly be myself while encouraging others to do the same.
Reminding us of our permission to silence the noise, and take hold of our dreams, bringing them up from the ashes to be reborn and expressed as we continue to learn who we are as powerful beings navigating the healing intricacies of this lifetime. Allowing myself to partake in this safe space I aim to better understand who I am as a writer, a poet, a healer, and most importantly, as a person. I look forward to embarking on this journey and I hope that all who read my work are reminded of the little pieces of themselves that have for too long been neglected and hidden. On this journey of “finding ourselves” I hope we remember that who we are is not scattered around in pieces for us to find and put together as the term “find myself” seems to imply. However, we are instead, already whole and fully in tact simply ready and willing to be reminded of the important things that make us feel alive.
So I thank you in advance for embarking on this magnificent journey with me. I hope that it is as long as it is beautiful and I hope that we may never near an end, for growth is a continual process full of many twists and turns. Here is to continual growth and desired knowledge of self.
