Trust Your Gut

Following our gut instincts will often get us far in life. Sitting down with ourselves, taking quiet time to listen and hear exactly what we need can often save us from potentially terrible fates. Recently I have come into a few situations where while I sought advice from close and well respected friends, what I actually needed was to understand how important taking my own leap of faith was. Although receiving advice can help us gain new perspectives, always depending on the opinions of others may start to cloud our own judgement and disconnect us from our naturally occurring “gut feeling”. When this feeling diminishes within me, I find that I begin to question everything in a subconscious attempt to psych myself out of doing whatever it is.

Instead of going with what feels right for me, I compare my truth to the truth of others, landing myself in the very situations that I intended to avoid in the first place. While this is true, the more life I live the more I realize that life does not come with a book of “rights and wrongs”. We all learn as we go and the longer we go the more we learn. More importantly, the more we find ourselves, the more we are able to connect to the living wellspring that resides within. This sacred space inside of all of us will always guide us along the best path for our individuality. As I started understanding this more, I began recognizing that I do not always require the input from others to help me. In fact, I realized that for me, relying on my own opinions more often helps me foster my own sense of self worth while also cultivating my ability to connect with something higher within myself.

I continue to fall more in love with this new and improved version of me but I sometimes question what happens when my gut instinct isn’t exactly clear? What do I do when the connection I once had to my instinct feels severed, seemingly never to return? Dramatic, yes I know, but that’s how it feels sometimes. Sometimes we go through periods in our lives where we feel as if we will never hear or see clearly again, which can leave us feeling lost and as if life is just something that happens to us. Though these feelings can be strong, this just simply isn’t true. Don’t believe it. No matter how loud the world around you gets, we always have our instincts, we just simply have to give ourselves the quiet space needed for them to rise to the surface.

The more I write the more I realize that my writing is always in me, but it’s not until I provide the safe space for words to move that they flow freely. Feeling and connecting with our instincts often work in the same way. If we constantly go against our gut feelings or ignore the signs we receive from the Universe, our gut will feel neglected and in turn begin to seemingly go silent within us. Please let this be a reminder that your instincts have not gone silent, however they are simply waiting for you to trust again. Waiting for you to believe in yourself enough to know that your instincts will never lead you wrong, even if you can’t yet see the light at the end of the tunnel.

So as we exist here in this space today, potentially contemplating what tomorrow will bring, I urge you to be at peace with yourself. Remind yourself that you can trust your gut because it won’t lead you astray, even if the answers it gives feel crazy or makes you feel lonely. Always go with your gut and remember to give yourself some quiet time to really sit and listen to what amazing things it has to say. Remember, your gut instincts support you in life, so make steps toward taking autonomy over yours today.
